| SRL-Ranbaxy Laboratories (SRL), one of the largest pathology service providers in the country, will be opening its first testing centre in Kolkata soon.
| |
| The lab has already started after a soft launch in the city and the commercial launch would follow in a few days, top sources in the company told Business Standard.
| |
| The Kolkata market has emerged as a large one for medical services in recent years with users coming in from south Asian countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
| |
| The source said SRL was responding to this need. In the pipeline was a lab at Leh, which would offer same day diagnostic service at that location.
| |
| The company would offer close to 3000 tests at its Kolkata outlet and the lab would be linked to its central facility in Mumbai for handling of very advanced and rare tests, the source indicated. Costs would be competitive for users.
| |
| The source claimed that the cost of important tests like a polymerase chain reaction had been brought down to Rs 1300 now from Rs 26,000 in 1996, thanks to economies and scale and SRL’s unique skills in the field. All SRL labs are wired on a single network so that data was available across the system with virtually no lag time.
| |
| SRL, which develops and provides incisive diagnostic, prognostic and monitoring services, was a lab accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and has recently successfully completed its laboratory audit by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
| |
| Among other services, SRL’s clinical trials division served drug development companies and contract research organisations (CRO) for phase II-IV testing, the source pointed out.
| |
| SRL’s clients included SmithKline Beecham, Pfizer, Hoechst Marion Roussel, Novartis, Wockhardt, Quintiles, Covance and Virtual Central Lab, the source added.
| |
| SRL was present at over 250 towns through clinical reference labs in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Mohali with over 500 collection centers and nationwide specimen pick-up system.
| |
| SRL picked up over 2000 samples and did over 10,000 assays on an average day. |
