Asia Heart plans hospitals in Bengal

Asia Heart Foundation is planning to set up hospitals in 19 districts of West Bengal.
According to cardiac surgeon Devi Prasad Shetty, who is associated with the hospital, the project is part of an effort to add 20,000 hospital beds across the country in the next three years.
Speaking at the graduation and valediction ceremonies of the College of Nursing and School of Nursing, Asia Heart Foundation, earlier this week, he said, "The hospitals we are planning will have models between the government and corporate hospitals."
Shetty said that nursing as a profession has not been promoted by the government. "For a Rs 1 crore turnover in an IT company, around 10 people are required. In hospitals, 200 people are required for the same," he explained.
Shetty added that policymakers should revise the curriculum of the state-run nursing colleges to meet the requirements of nursing jobs in the US and the UK.
