BHEL-PSSR turnover up 11 per cent

BHEL-Power Sector Southern Region (PSSR), which includes the states of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Orissa, saw revenues during 2007-08 increase to Rs 675 crore from Rs 603 crore a year earlier.
 
PR Shriram, general manager in-charge, BHEL-PSSR, said profit before tax dropped to Rs 109 crore from Rs 104 crore earlier. Value-added increased four per cent to Rs 189 crore from Rs 181 crore. PSSR received orders worth Rs 889 crore during fiscal 2008. Currently, order book outstanding is at Rs 2,089 crore.
 
During the last fiscal, PSSR received orders from 27 countries and made its maiden entry into New Caledonia in Australia. On future plans, he said PSSR was targeting a turnover of Rs 1,700 crore by 2011-12 and exploring international opportunities.
 
Other plans include new tools and plants "� high capacity cranes of 1,000 mt and above, manpower induction of fresh graduates and diploma holders, EPC in nuclear business of up to 700 Mw, preparedness for executing supercritical thermal sets, developing a wider sub-contractor base and building knowledge base in core areas.
 
During 2007-08, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL)'s net profit (PAT) increased to Rs 2,815 crore, while profit before tax (PBT) increased to Rs 4,395 crore from Rs 3,736 crore.
 
BHEL secured all-time high orders worth Rs 50,265 crore from domestic and international customers during the year. Of this, the power sector orders alone accounted for at Rs 41,604 crore, industry sector "� Rs 7,860 crore, and international operations Rs 2,311 crore.
 
Total exports (physical and deemed) stood at Rs 4,891 crore. BHEL has now joined an elite group of select companies with a market capitalization of over Rs 1 trillion.
