Chennai Auto Cluster wants govt to share cost burden

BS Reporter Chennai

The Chennai Auto Ancillary Industrial Infrastructure Up-gradation Company (CAAIIUC), set up to upgrade the physical infrastructure at the three industrial estates in and around Chennai, has sought Rs 13.61 crore from the Centre and state government.

The company is upgrading the physical infrastructure at industrial parks in Ambaturr, Thirumazhisai and Thirumudivakam, located within 30 km radius of the city.

The project cost had been revised upwards to Rs 61.10 crore due to the increase in raw material and labour cost, said Dilip Kumbhat, chairman, CAAIIUC. Hence, they want the government to share the burden.

The Centre through its Industrial Infrastructure Up-gradation Scheme has granted Rs 27.74 crore out of earlier project cost of Rs 47.49 crore, estimated in April 2007.

The upgradaion work includes laying of new roads and storm water drains, street lighting, and underground drainage. CAAIIUC, also known as Chennai Auto Cluster, is an SPV promoted by the Centre, TN government and other stakeholders.
