Rice millers in Chhattisgarh are planning to resort to strike if the state government failed to revise the custom milling rates of parboiled and raw rice.

The millers have taken an unanimous decision at a meeting today to go on strike from December 13 if the state government failed to take decision on revising the custom milling rates, Chhattisgarh rice millers association President Yogesh Agrawal said.

The association has sent a letter to the chief minister informing about their demands and the ultimatum to resort to strike, Agrawal said, adding that the rate had not been hiked for the past eight years.

Instead, the rate was cut down for the paddy crop season 2008-09. In 2001, the custom milling rate was Rs 40 for a quintal and it was cut down to Rs 35 in 2008-09, the millers said.
