Daks products to be made in India

British premium lifestyle brand Daks, touted as a favourite with the British royal family, may soon be made in India.
The London-headquarted Daks Simpson is looking at manufacturing the Daks apparel locally which would not only cater to the Indian mart but also to its home country "" the European market.
Towards this, Daks has strengthened its relationship with Forbes Gokak, which has now acquired the manufacturing rights for Daks' merchandise in India.
Forbes Gokak earlier had only the distribution rights for Daks, which was taken over from Tata International.
Some of Daks' customers include Tata group chairman Ratan Tata, Wipro chairman Azim Premji, Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, football players David Beckham among others.
Anthony Wilson, managing director of Daks Simpson Group Plc, said, "So far, we have been importing Daks' apparel range and selling in India. Now we are looking at manufacturing the apparels locally in alliance with Forbes Gokak. India would also become a hub for Daks' outsourcing worldwide in the time to come."
Manufacturing the garments locally would also bring down the product pricing by at least 30-35 per cent since the cost of shipping and taxes will reduce considerably, said Reetika Mehra Dalal, India-head of Daks Simpson.
On the domestic front, Daks has targetted a turnover of Rs 60 crore in the next five years.
It is also expanding its retail presence and plans to add another 15 stores to its existing 15 outlets.
Of which, the new 10 stores would be exclusively Daks women's wear. Daks had recently introduced a niche women's line and at a later date would foray into accessories.
The realignment of Daks distribution rights was followed by the Tata group's strategy to focus on its core areas like steel, telecom, automobile, software among others.
