Domestic vehicles sales up

Despite the bleak forecast of a decelerating market for 2 wheelers mainly due to shrinking credit options, barring electric vehicles & mopeds, motorcycles & scooters grew by 8.31 % and 11.93 % for the month of April 2008 respectively. Electric vehicles witnessed a negative growth of 68% while mopeds de-grew by 1%.
For April 2008 motorcycle manufacturers sold 5,01,592 units, and in April last year logged 4,63,091 units. The figures include step throughs.
Three-wheeler sales (passenger carrier) broke the negative trend in March this year and grew by 15.29 % in April, whereas three-wheelers (goods carrier) maintained the slowing trend witnessed in March also in April 2008. Sales decelerated by 9.51%.

Sales of passenger vehicles (including cars, utility vehicles, and multi-purpose vehicles) rose by 21.21% in April this year. Car sales in April stood at 98,740 units versus 84,283 units posted the same period last year.
Segment wise car sales is as follows: A1/A2 contributed 74 %, A3 contributed 17.51 %, while the rest of the sales came from the luxury segments of A4, A5, and A6.
Sales in the overall commerical vehicles - light commercial vehicle (LCV) & Medium/heavy vehicle category for April this year grew by 7.62%. It was 33,271 units this year compared to 30,914 units April 2007.
Segment wise total light commerical vehicles (LCV) - passenger & goods carriers - sold in April current year stood at 14,663 units a growth of 10.75% compared to the same period last year.
While sales in April this year for medium & heavy vehicles grew by 5.28% to 18,608 units compared to the same month last year.
