ElectroMech plans explosion-proof cranes at Pune facility

Pune-based ElectroMech Material Handling Systems (India) Pvt Ltd, a leading crane manufacturer in the country, is planning to manufacture explosion-proof cranes at its Pune facility. The company has just entered into a tie-up with Stahl Cranes Systems GmbH, Germany, to manufacture explosion-proof cranes.
The company, which presently holds 10 per cent market share in crane industry in the country, has set the target of increasing its market share upto 25 per cent in the next two-three years.
The company has its crane manufacturing facility at Pirangut, near Pune and setting up a new facility at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai.
“We are looking to manufacture explosion proof cranes using Explosion-proof certified components sourced from Stahl. These cranes will be catering to Zone 1 & Zone 2 areas within hazardous environments and will be suitable for explosive gases as well as explosive dust,” Tushar Mehendale, Managing Director, ElectroMech, told Business Standard.
“The main components which are certified Explosion-proof compliant to ATEX regulations in Europe will be imported from Stahl’s factory in Germany and we will be doing the complete fabrication and crane building in India at our facilities in Pune. The project has already started and we are in advanced stages of finalizing the first set of orders for this product range,” Mehendale said, but avoided divulge financial details.

“Currently, ElectroMech enjoys market share of around 10 per cent in terms of volumes which we are looking at increasing it upto 25 per cent in next two-three years,” he said.
“The Pirangut factory in Pune is in the finishing stages of expansion, and will have a capacity of producing 2,000 cranes annually. Previously we had 10,000 sq mtrs area of covered facilities for manufacturing and we added another 8,000 sq mtrs to enhance the installed capacity. Our main factory is spread over a land measuring in excess of 75,000 sq. mtrs. The new Sriperumbudur facility (near Chennai), once completed, will have the capacity to produce 200 cranes annually,” Mehendale said.
The company registered a sales turn over of Rs. 160 crore in FY 2009-10, against Rs. 150 crore in FY 2008-09 and Rs. 80.5 crore in FY 2007-08.
