FACT starts commercial production of Zincated Factamfos

Public sector fertiliser company Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd (FACT) has started commercial production and marketing of Zincated Factamfos, a fertiliser mix fortified with zinc, an important micro-nutrient required by plants.

Zinc has been identified by the Centre as one of the important micro-nutrients required by plants, a FACT press release said here today.

It is found that 50 per cent of the soil in India is deficient in zinc and addition of zinc to the soil in the required quantity will improve the quality and quantity of crops, it said.

Zincated Factamfos contains 0.3 per cent zinc in the form of zinc phosphate. FACT intends to produce 200 tonnes of Zincated Factamfos per day, it said.
    
FACT's own Research and Development wing developed this product without any help from external agencies.
    
The new nutrient-based subsidy scheme of the Centre has made the new product economically viable, since zinc is also included in the ambit of subsidy, it said.
