Press Trust of India  |  New Delhi

Italian automaker Fiat today launched an updated version of its Linea sedan, priced between Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 9.72 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The new Linea, which will be available in both petrol and diesel variants, comes equipped with various new features including cruise control and dual stage airbags.

The petrol variants of the car are priced between Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 9.01 lakh while the cost of diesel variants range between Rs 8.15 lakh and Rs 9.72 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

"With the launch of new Linea, we are optimistic about our growth in Indian market and are strengthening our commitment to our existing as well as prospective customers," Fiat Chrysler India Operations President and Managing Director Nagesh Basavanhalli said in a statement.

The launch of the car is a start of new chapter of Fiat India's journey in the country, he added.

"Fiat India will also be launching more models this year and with a 100-plus dealer network and upcoming marketing initiatives, we will be in a strong position to capitalise on the competitive market," Basavanhalli said.

The company is planning to have a product portfolio of five vehicles by the end of this year. By 2016, the company plans to have nine models in the country.

Fiat currently sells two models -- Linea Classic, which was launched last year and compact hatchback Punto in the country.

While Linea Classic would cater to the low end of C-segment the new Linea would cater to the high end of the segment.
