Italian firm plans to set up plant

BS Reporter Chennai/ Bangalore
Biesse, an Italian woodworking technology company which has been doing business in India for the last six years, has announced its plans to set up a full-fledged production facility in Bangalore.

The facility, to come up at Nelamangala in Karnataka, will become operational in June this year.

Speaking to Business Standard, Biesse's sales and marketing manager Stefano Bottene said: "We had a tie-up with a local company all these years. With the commissioning of the plant, we will be in a position to directly interact with our Indian customers. The facility will also have spares and service departments.'' Bottene, however, refused to share investment details about the company.

The move to own a facility stemmed from the realisation about Indian customers' changing needs. Bottene explained: "The knowledge of Indian customers is growing. The general understanding that Indians care only about price is not true, they give priority to quality and servicing. That is the reason why we thought we should be located close to the Indian customer."

The company, which recently opened an office in Mumbai, plans to start branches in Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai.
