Infosys Technologies co-founder and executive co-chairman S Gopalakrishnan has been elected as the president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the year 2013-14.
Gopalakrishnan, popularly known as Kris, would succeed Godrej Group chairman Adi Godrej at CII. Gopalakrishnan along with N R Narayana Murthy and five others, founded Infosys in 1981. He served as director (technical) and his initial responsibilities included the management of design, development, implementation, and support of information systems for clients in the consumer products industry in the US. In January 2011, the Government of India awarded Kris the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third highest civilian honour.
Meanwhile, Ajay S Shriram, chairman and senior managing director of DCM Shriram Consolidated Ltd (DSCL) is president designate of CII for the year 2013-2014. Sumit Mazumder, vice chairman and managing director of TIL is elected as the vice president of CII.
