L&T tunes up focus on railway ops, bags Sterlite Energy deal

Sterlite is coming up with a power plant of 4X600 mw capacity near Jharsuguda in Orissa and L&T will be responsible for facilitating the 38-km railway track that will start from the plant to the nearest rail head.
The rail line will be used to carry around 16 million tonnes of coal per annum required for the power plant. The project is scheduled to be completed within the next 16-18 months. Last year, L&T with the intent of leveraging on the growing opportunities in the railways sector, formed a separate railway unit.
