Maersk container ship berths at Vizag port

Maersk mainline container ship ER Canberra berthed at the Visakha Container Terminal with a volume of more them 1,000 container boxes, which include exports and imports.
This was the first time that such a ship had berthed at Visakhapatnam port.
Sriram Ravichander, chief operating officer, Visakha Container Terminal Private Limited, said efforts to connect Visakhapatnam with China finally yielded fruits. Introduction of China service will enable Vizag to attract huge business from Nagpur, Raipur, Delhi, Hyderabad and Guntur, which were currently resorting to other ports.
Speaking to the media, he said as part of the weekly service, Maersk line had deployed four vessels with around 2,900 container boxes initially.
The service will arrive at Vizag every Wednesday and depart on Thursday with a transit time of 15 days between Shanghai to Vizag. It will also be extended to Kolkata/Haldia by trainshipping the boxes at Vizag.
Container movement between Kolkata/Haldia and Vizag will be carried by feeder vessels, he said.
