Meyer Burger begins India operations

Swiss solar equipment maker Meyer Burger has forayed in to India by opening a center in Pune. It will supply machinery and system solutions for the solar, semi-conductor industry and sapphire and opto-electronics industry.

Commenting on this, Peter Pauli, CEO of the Meyer Burger Group, said, "The office underscores our long-term interest in the development of the photovoltaic industry in India and emphasizes our focus on customer specific solutions supported by local sales and service organizations."

The company is facing a tough low-cost competition from Asian companies and lower government subsidies, on which much of the industry depends. It is now looking at India as a huge potential market.

 

Adding further he said, "India is at an advantage for solar energy as it receives twice the solar energy as compared to US, UK and Spain and will see a multi-fold growth in photovoltaic market and renewable energies if this solar energy is utilized for the right applications. India is poise to play an important role in the development of solar energy. As a leading global supplier of innovative technologies in the photovoltaic industry, Meyer Burger’s new office confirms its commitment to the Indian market and signals the successful integration of Roth & Rau India, OTB Solar & Meyer and Burger into a single location."

Meyer Burger has recently acquired German solar energy company Roth & Rau.

Sunil Raibagi, director, Meyer Burger India said, "From our new location, we will be able to locally offer innovative systems and solutions from all members of the Meyer Burger Group along the entire photovoltaic value chain".

Adding further he said, "With its combined sales and service location, Meyer Burger is strengthening its local presence and will be able to offer its customers a comprehensive systems and processes portfolio from water, cell and module production equipment and technologies to process control MES solutions."
