In a major boost to UP's export potential, the Mitsui Co Ltd, a Japanese firm, will set up a free-trade warehousing zone over 100 acres in Greater Noida.

This was decided yesterday during a high-level meeting here attended by the UP Development Council Chairman Amar Singh, senior officials of the state industries department, and a Japanese delegation led by the Japanese ambassador.

"The meeting focused on FDI possibilities in UP. The land to Mitsui Co will be provided in Greater Noida Phase-II," said Industrial Development Commissioner Atul Kumar Gupta after the meeting.

"A big cluster has been proposed at Greater Noida Phase II exclusively for Japanese industrial units," he added.

Besides, Japanese auto giants like Honda and Yamaha are expected to expand activities in the state. Another Japanese company, Sumitomo, will be given land in the state.

The Japanese delegation also showed willingness to investment in the proposed Lucknow Industrial Development Authority (LIDA) and the Kosi Industrial Area in Mathura.

It was also decided that quarterly meetings will be held between the Japanese side and the state government's representatives to regularly monitor the progress.

In this direction, the first meeting is proposed to be held under the chairmanship of the Industrial Development Commissioner at Noida on September 20.

The meeting will focus on land development and logistics provisions. In the near future, not only the governments but also Japanese private business and industrial houses will be interacting directly.

Atul Gupta said the visit of the Japanese ambassador for exploring investment opportunities in the state was a major achievement for the UPDC.

Amar Singh has invited Japanese Ambassador Yasukumi Enoki to Greater Noida Phase-II to explore the potential for the development of infrastructure for Japanese requirements in the next five to ten years.
