National Aluminium Company (Nalco), the navratna PSU under the Union ministry of Mines, has placed orders worth Rs 294 crores with the micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in 2013-14.
This was revealed at the 19th Plant Level Advisory Committee (PLAC) meeting organsied here.
Stating that Nalco is always eager to support the MSEs, Ansuman Das, Chairman and Managing Director, Nalco said, "In the context of globalization, it is evident that the MSE units should lay more emphasis on maintaining quality, cost competitiveness and technological up-gradation."

The constant and mutually beneficial interactions, coupled with support from the concerned government bodies, have helped in fostering better business relation between Nalco and MSE units, the CMD added.
On the proposed Aluminium Park at Angul, Das said, Nalco has already committed to supply 50,000 tonne hot metal to the downstream units proposed to be set up in the park. Odisha based industries should take advantage of it, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, state MSME secretary Panchanan Dash asked all the District Industries Centres (DICs) to play the role of facilitators between Nalco and the MSEs.
At the meeting, the officials of the Central PSU explained to the MSE promoters the methodology of placing orders on ancillary units. The items identified for purchases from MSE/ancillary units were also detailed out.
The aluminum major has already given ancillary status to 57 MSEs of the state.Among others, Sarat Chandra Naik, special secretary, state Industries Department, Nityananda Palai, Director of Industries, and Soma Mondal, Director (commercial), Nalco were present in the meeting. Members and representatives of various micro & small scale as well as ancillary industries of the state attended the meeting.
