NMDC mines come to a halt

BS Reporter Chennai/ Hyderabad
The Maoist's blasting of the three high tension transmission towers near Narayanpur in the Bastar division of Chhattisgarh on Thursday has paralysed the production of iron ore in Bailadila mines of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).

The daily loss of production is about 60,000 tonnes amounting to Rs 9 crore per day, NMDC stated in a press release on Monday.

According to NMDC, the disruption has stopped iron ore movement from its Bailadila projects to steel plants and pig iron plants located around Raipur and also to its major customers including Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, Essar, Ispat Industries and Vikram Ispat.

NMDC said that it was expected to take six-to-seven more days to restore power. The public sector undertaking was also extending its support to the state authorities to restore power.
