The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) posted its best-ever April-August performance in major production areas, including crude and saleable steel.

The steel plant produced 9,70,527 tonnes of hot metal, 9,12,092 tonnes of crude steel and 8,85,386 tonnes of saleable steel during the first five months of the current fiscal, registering growth of 4.5%, 3.9% and 3.4%, respectively over the corresponding period last year, RSP sources said today.

Also, the average oven pushing at the coke ovens (361.1) and sinter production (14,86,546 Tonnes) during the period were also the best ever performance since inception of the steel plant, they added.

In rolling mill zone, it produced 3,77,926 tonnes of HR coils for sale, 11,990 tonnes of spiral weld pipes and 28,141 Tonnes of cold rolled non-oriented (CRNO) steel RSP improved its last year's record by 14.5%, 11.1% and 1.1%, respectively.

The performance of the plant during August was a major contributor in this success. The steel plant fulfilled the monthly APP (Annual Production Plan) targets fixed for many major areas like hot metal, HR coil total and saleable steel during the month, sources said.

The hot strip mill department in particular performed outstandingly well by producing 98,935 Tonnes of HR coil for sale, the best performance for any month since inception.

The steel plant also performed exceedingly well in techno-economics parameters like coke rate, coal to hot metal ratio and energy consumption.

The new ore bedding and blending complex of RSP was also inaugurated last month.
