Thermal Powertech synchronises 660 Mw with AP grid

Thermal Powertech Corporation India (TPCIL), a joint venture between Gayatri Energy Ventures and Singapore-based Sembcorp Utilities, today synchronised its first 660 Mw unit with the grid.
The unit is a part of 1,320 mw coal-fired power plant being developed by TPCIL at Krishnapatnam in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. In this joint venture company, Sembcorp holds 65 per cent equity while Gayatri Ventures, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gayatri Projects, owns the remaining 35 per cent .
“The synchronisation of unit 1 is a significant milestone towards the completion of the power plant. We look forward to commencing commercial operations of this first unit in beginning of January, 2015, and to full completion of the plant in the mid of 2015,” TPCIL CEO Atul Nargund said.
The company has signed a power purchase agreement with the state discoms for supply of 500 Mw for 25 years. It has also secured fuel supply agreements with Mahanadi Coal Fields and Indonesia-based PT Bayan Resources for supply of coal to its super critical power project, according to a company release.
