Two people killed at Coromandel's Kakinada plant

At least two people were killed in an incident of ammonia leakage at Coromandel International plant at Kakinada late Monday evening, the company said in a BSE filing.
The fatal incident occurred at 7.45 p.m. on Monday, when the unloading of liquid ammonia from a ship at Kakinada jetty started.
After initial stabilisation at the ammonia sphere, when change over to the atmospheric tank was carried out by the operators by operating the change-over valve, there was a sudden failure of flange gasket joint releasing a pool of liquid ammonia.
The leak was controlled by the fire crew of Coromandel and neighbouring industries like Nagarjuna Fertilisers and Spectrum of Government Fire Service Departments.
The company said in the filing that the situation was under control. An investigation is being conducted to determine the exact cause of the incident.
