UTV enters East Africa

Media and entertainment firm UTV today said it has launched its UTV Movies International in East Africa.
The company has also tied up with Tristar Media Marketing for launching the channel on the regional cable network, a press release issued here said.
With this development, UTV's broadcast footprint now encompasses the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the UAE and South-Eastern Africa, it said.
"We are pleased to announce the expansion of our footprint into the African region, which boasts of a sizeable ethnic community and we are positive of living up to our commitment of providing quality entertainment products to our viewers across the world," UTV CEO (Broadcasting) MK Anand said.
UTV Movies will reach out to the ethnic community in the COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Zambia and Malawi, he said.
"UTV Movies has the inherent advantage of being the only Hindi movie channel coming from the country's largest motion picture studio. We have the distinct advantage of possessing a young and fresh library of Bollywood film content, which is in demand across the entire Middle East region," Anand said.
