Vizag inds face 20% cut in water supply

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is implementing a 20 per cent cut in water supply to local industries from Tuesday. The move is aimed at ensuring enough drinking water supply in Vizag during summer.
GVMC supplies 16 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to 89 bulk consumers like port, shipyard, BHPV, Hindustan Zinc and Coromandal Fertilizers.
“The inflow from main reservoirs like Raiwada, Meghadrigedda and Tatipudi has dropped and hence we have decided to reduce the water supply to bulk consumers by 4 mgd,” B Jayarama Reddy, chief engineer, GVMC. This would result in a loss of Rs 1 crore a month for the GVMC, he said.
