Delhi Metro gets a record ridership of 27 lakh people in a day

With this average the transport system could end up carrying about one billion people in a year

With a network of about 190 kilometers, Delhi Metro recorded peak ridership of 27 lakh people travelling in a single day on Monday, August 4.

Just about a year ago, the ridership stood at about 23 lakh people per day. Delhi Metro opened three kilometer long Mandi House-Central Secretariat route few months ago expecting to get about 70,000 people additional traffic through the route.

With this average, Delhi metro could end up carrying about one billion people in a year entering the club of top fifteen metro systems in the world based on ridership.

Tokyo metro in Japan that started operations in 1927 is the world's most populated metro system carrying about eighty lakh people in a single day.
