Under the ambitious Direct Benefits Transfer of LPG (DBTL) scheme, the oil marketing companies (OMCs) will not be selling cylinders at the subsidised rate from April 1 next year, they have reminded consumers.
The difference is that all cooking gas customers will have to buy at the market rate from that date from an OMC but with the cash subsidy having been already credited to one’s account.
The DBTL scheme was re-launched, in 54 districts of 11 states as of November 15 in the first phase. The central government has decided to launch it for the rest of the country from January 1.
“In the first phase, we focused on the districts which have higher Aadhaar coverage,” said Indian Oil Corporation’s general manager (Bihar-Jharkhand), R S Dahiya, “Now, the government has decided to roll out this scheme in the other 676 districts of the country from next year. This scheme is designed to enhance consumer convenience. All the customer has to do is to attach his Aadhaar number with his LPG connection and his subsidy will be credited directly into his bank account.”
