Cameras to keep eye on visitors to Mysore Palace

BS Reporter Chennai/ Mysore
The Mysore Palace will have closed circuit TV cameras keeping an eye on visitors as part of the security measures.

In the first phase, eight CCTV cameras have been installed for Rs 2.5 lakh. The sensitive cameras monitor tourists visiting the nearly century-old structure, now a tourist showpiece and a part residence of the scion of the Wodeyar family, Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wodeyar.

The images captured by the cameras are also stored in the hard disk. The digital video recording helps trace any visitor, if need be. The cameras use 300 mb for a one hour of recording. However, the length of the recording will depend on the hard disk storage capacity and the number of cameras installed.

Bizzworld Mysore Branch Head Syed Aftab Ahmed told Business Standard, "Around 48 cameras are needed to cover the palace. The project cost will be roughly Rs 20 lakh. This will provide total security to the palace, as all visitors can be monitored live with the option of recording and remotely watching."

The basic components of a CCTV system comprises cameras, switchers, digital video recorders and TVs/CCTV monitors and PCs. With internet connection provided, the security personnel can monitor from any corner of the world. If anything goes wrong, they can go back and see the pictures recorded.

"Closed circuit TV is a visual surveillance technology designed for monitoring a variety of environments and activities. It uses TV cameras to transmit a video signal to a specific, limited set of monitors. It is becoming a necessity in all business establishments. With workforce becoming a major concern, it makes sense to have a system, which can help monitor the entire premises with minimal fuss and manpower from the comfort of an office. This provides total control on the systems, helps avoid waste and pilferage, saves time, ensures better productivity and efficiency of the staff," explains Farooq-e-Asam, business head, Bizzworld.

Bizzworld, which offers a variety of security systems, had provided a dozen cameras and with 360-degree-range zoom cameras for the Mysore railway station during the last Dasara, on an experimental basis. The one-month trial made it possible to catch some pick-pockets, says Aftab Ahmed.

Bizzworld has over 150 customers comprising of offices and showrooms, hotels, educational institutions, jewellery shops, industries and hospitals. Besides the Mysore Palace, Railways and Mysore City Corporation are its government sector customers. MGM industries is its biggest client with 52 cameras.

The parent company, Bangalore-based Total Solution makes tailor-made assembly of the security system products, while the Bizzworld assembles the products depending upon the customer's requirement in Mysore, together making an approximate Rs 2 crore turnover.

The products are sourced from places like Delhi and China. Besides CCTV, access control, time and attendance, fire detection, security intrusion alarm, audio & video door phone and metal detectors are its other key products.
