Cement Consumption Crosses 10 Mn Tonne Mark In Ap

The cement consumption has crossed the 10 million tonne mark for the first time in Andhra Pradesh during the financial year 2000-03, with an 18 per cent growth over the previous year.
The growth in consumption, despite the drought impact across the state, has come through a hectic activity in housing construction and laying of cement roads in rural areas under the Food for Work programme.
The ongoing highway expansion works, covering a total length of over 1,000 km in the state, has also resulted in higher consumption of cement.
