Chhattisgarh's budget outlay for urban development increases five folds

BS Reporter Kolkata/ Raipur

The budget outlay for the urban development in Chhattisgarh has increased five folds since the inception of the state.

The state that has been bestowed with rich minerals came into being in November 2000. The budget outlay for the urban development was Rs 400 crore. In last 12 years, the budget allocation for the department had increased nearly five folds enabling to take up a series of urban infrastructure development works.

“Now, the budget outlay for the urban development department is Rs 1900 crore,” Chief Minister Raman Singh said. The state government had ensured that money would not be a matter when it came to take up development works in the urban localities and provide better civic amenities to the people, he added.

The city contact programme launched by the state government to take the governance to the doorstep of people had also evoked good response. Under the campaign, the government officials are visiting each ward in the city limit and recording the grievances of the people related to civic problems.

According to the urban development department officials, the complaints received from the people had been made online. This would help the person to know the status of his complaint online instead of visiting the offices concerned.

The week long campaign that started on November 19 would also help the authorities to compile the statistics of the urban locality. During the campaign, the officials had been recording all the details required for the same.
