Eastern Power Puts Up Better Show In & #8217;02-03

Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (EPDCL), which is the only power distribution company earning profits for the past two years, has improved its performance considerably during the financial year 2002-03.

Y Gopala Krishna Murthy, the chairman and managing director of EPDCL, said that in the last fiscal, the company had managed to reduce the power distribution losses by one per cent. Because of this, the earnings had slightly gone up, he said.

As on March 2002, the line losses were at 17.5 per cent, and it was reduced to 16.5 per cent by the end of March 2003. For the current year, the company has targeted a further reduction by 0.5 per cent, he stated.

 

In 2002-03, EPDCL purchased 5882 million units (MUs) from APTransco, out of this, 4910 MUs were sold to LT, HT and agricultural consumers in five districts covering from West Godavari to Srikakulam Districts and earned Rs 1,446 crore. Nearly 970 MUs had gone waste in form of commercial and technical losses.
