Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said as a result of reforms being undertaken in the area of currency and coinage over the last two years, India will be self reliant to a large extent." He was speaking at the commissioning of the New Bank Note Print Line in Devas in Madhya Pradesh.
He also said the reforms related to security features will also ensure that the incidences of fake currency are reduced considerably. There is no official estimate of fake currency in circulation.
However, Global Financial Integrity in its report in February, 2011 had said that counterfeit rupees are becoming a cause of concern in India.
