Govt working on formula

The Centre today said that a formula was being worked out to increase the number of seats as also institutions to ensure that the general category seats remained unaffected while implementing reservation in higher education.

"Some figures are being discussed. Financial implications will be worked out,'' Defence Minister Pranab Mukherji said after a meeting of the group of senior ministers formed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to resolve the controversy over extending quota to the OBCs in higher education.

The group is expected to submit its report to the PM tomorrow.

The committee, which was converted into a group of ministers today, held a second meeting later.

The students who have been on strike in Delhi also scaled down their demands today, from a total rejection of reservation to increase in the number of seats.
