Haryana tax collection up by 16.8%

Boosted by increases in the collection of value-added tax (VAT) and central sales tax (CST), as well as excise and entertainment taxes, Haryana has recorded a 16.80 per cent increase in tax collection till August.

Haryana Excise and Taxation Minister Kiran Choudhry said the state excise and taxation department has collected over Rs 8,499.80 crore as compared to Rs 7,277.17 crore collected in the corresponding period of the financial year 2011-12.

Excise collection till August 2012 was over Rs 1,465.24 crore which is 11.94 per cent than that of the corresponding period of last year. The minister said collection of VAT till August was 19.66 per cent more than last year’s corresponding period. VAT collection till August 2012 stood at Rs 6,130.44 crore. Similarly, CST saw a 5.26 per cent growth over the corresponding period last year. CST collection stood at Rs 653.16 crore

 

Choudhry said that the department had registered a 40.03 per cent growth in collection of entertainment tax by collecting over Rs 23 crore during the same period. Passenger and goods tax collection was over Rs 193.22 crore till August 2012, which was 10.56 per cent higher as than that of the corresponding period of last year.

Revenue collection through local area development tax was over Rs 16.40 crore during the same period, which was 48.86 crore higher that last year’s corresponding period.

The department had also collected over Rs 18.29 crore as luxury tax till August.
