Hc To Hear Petition Challenging Congress Election On Monday

The Delhi High Court yesterday posted a petition challenging the election of Sitaram Kesri as the president of the Congress party for further hearing on Monday. Justice M K Sharma asked for the records pertaining to two other election petitions of similar nature filed challenging the Congress organisational election last month and posted further hearing for July 7. The petition filed by Anadi Charan Das through counsel Surat Singh claimed that the election held on June 9 to elect the president of the Congress party was conducted with complete disregard to the party constitution. Das sought a direction from the court to the Congress to hold fresh election s.in conformity with the party constitution.
Interestingly, the petitioner, who had been elected to the Parliament thrice on Congress ticket, has also sought a direction from the court to the election commission of India to consider derecognition of the Congress party on the ground that the party has violated its own constitution by not holding the election of primary committee before holding national organisational election.
