Home minister faces breach of privilege move

Our Regional Bureau Mumbai
The state legislative assembly speaker, Arun Gujarati, today allowed the leader of the Opposition, Narayan Rane, to move a breach-of-privilege motion against R R Patil, state home minister, for speaking to the electronic media regarding an instance of a dalit woman's death in interior Maharashtra.

The woman had succumbed to burn injuries with the Opposition claiming that she was driven to set herself ablaze due to the callousness by state police officials.

Even as the issue was taken up for debate by the lower house of the assembly, Patil, on the conclusion of the morning session, spoke to television channels stating that the woman had burnt herself outside the precincts of the police station.
