India, Sweden to sign MoU to explore IT opportunities

Our Regional Bureau Chennai
The Indian and Swedish governments are to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday in an attempt to increase cooperation in the fields of information technology and communications.

The Union Minister of Communications and IT, Dayanidhi Maran, held talks with a Swedish government delegation led by Ulrica Messing, Minister of Communications and Regional Policy, in Chennai today.

After the talks, Maran told a press conference that the Indian side aimed to concentrate on learning from Swedish experience in the areas of telemedicine and e-governance.

He added that another important aim was to look for opportunities for the Indian business process outsourcing (BPO) sector among Sweden's small and medium enterprises.

At present, about 74 per cent of the Indian BPO segment's revenues come from North America. The Indian side hoped to broadbase the revenue flow.
