Press Trust Of India New Delhi

The Indian Premier League, 2009, may come under the tax net even though it was held outside the country. Income-tax sources said IPL would fetch revenue under the tax deducted at source category as the department felt the tournament, although played outside the country, was conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which is registered in India.

They said IPL was not registered as a separate organisation and would fetch revenue as section 194E of the I-T Act enables deduction at source.
