Jayaswals gets notice

Bs Reporter Mumbai/ Nagpur
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Baord (MPCB) has slapped a closure notice on Jayaswals Neco Limited, MIDC Hingna, and also directed the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to disconnect power supply to the unit with immediate effect.

According to a press release from the Nagpur regional office of the MPCB, the action was initiated due to non-compliance observed during the visit of board officials and "not providing adequate air pollution control system in the plant."

The MPCB said that it was surprising to note that the industry was operating without valid consent of the board and had failed to deposit the "consent fees." There are six units of the NECO Group in the MIDC industrial estate, Nagpur, that are under the scanner of the MPCB, the release said.

Notices had also been issued to these units earlier for non-compliance of the board's directions. The units too have failed to install primary pollution control systems and also failed to submit requisite bank guarantee required to ensure the implementation of the pollution control systems in a stipulated period.

The company also gave an undertaking to implement pollution control measures within a period of 30 days from the third week of November 2006, but the board officials found no progress had been made in accordance with the undertaking.

The MPCB has taken serious note of the failure to comply with the board's directives and the matter will now be decided by the competent authority in the MPCB. The MSEDCL too is yet to disconnect power supply to the unit, the press release issued by MPCB regional officer, V M Motghare, states.
