Karnataka seeks SC bench in city

Karnataka has asked the Centre to set up a permanent bench of the Supreme Court at Bangalore in order to help the litigant public in South India seeking justice from the apex court.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister Suresh Kumar told reporters here at the weekend that the state government had submitted a memorandum to Chief Justice of India too requesting him to consider the proposal on priority.

He said, the state government was ready to provide the required infrastructure to set up the bench at Bangalore. “The then Union Law

Minister Veerappa Moily had advocated that this bench should come up in Bangalore. Now, once again, a new memorandum would be submitted to the Chief Justice of India repeating the request,” he said.

 

Replying to a question on converting the high court circuit benches in Dharwad and Gulbarga into permanent benches, Sureshkumar said, both the benches were doing well and disposing off the cases fast and added that the government will once again plead with the CJI to accord a permanent bench status to the circuit benches at Dharwad and Gulbarga.
