Karunakaran funeral today

The funeral of senior congress leader and former chief minister of Kerala, K Kaurnakaran, will be held at Poonkunnam, near Thrissur, on Saturday.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Home minister P Chidambaram paid homage to one of the senior most leaders of Congress at the party headqaurters in Thiruvananthapuram today. 

The body of the veteran leader will be brought to Thrissur by today night in a special convoy and the funeral with full state honours will be held on Saturday morning. Prime minister Manmohan Singh is expected to attend the funeral. 

Karunakaran died on Thursday evening at Ananthapuri hospital in Thriuvananthapuram after a week-long hospitalisation.

He was the chief minister of Kerala four times and Union minister for Industries. He is now a special invitee to the working committee of Congress. He is survived by son K Muraleedharan and daughter Padmaja Venugopal.
