Uttarakhand chief minister B C Khanduri on Thursday opposed FDI in retail saying it would badly affect the state’s economy.
Describing the Union government’s decision to approve FDI in retail as “inappropriate”, Khanduri said the Centre should have taken all states into confidence. “FDI in retail will affect the small traders,” Khanduri said.
Meanwhile, a partial bandh was observed in the hill state against the FDI in retail.
Shops and business centres remained closed in the morning in Dehradun and Haridwar and other small towns with activists of Left parties and BJP seen enforcing the bandh. The bandh was peaceful, police said.
