Mishra Sees Mid-Term Poll

BSCAL

Union agriculture minister and senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Chaturanan Mishra yesterday said that the country was heading for yet another mid-term poll following withdrawal of support by the Congress to the United Front (UF) government at the Centre.

No one can save the country from going to yet another mid-term poll if the Congress does not rethink its stand on withdrawing the support, Mishra told a press conference here.

Ruling out the possibility of a Congress or Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition at the Centre, the CPI leader said that the United Front partners would not support either of the two parties.

In reply to a question, the minister said that the unity among the United Front stood like a rock and Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda stands as undisputed leader.

No compromise can be made on the question of replacing Deve Gowda, he added.

Mishra also predicted a split in the Congress in the event of a mid-term poll.

To another question, he said, The Congress will be routed if the mid-term poll takes place.
