MSME census expected by Aug-end: Dinesh Rai

A census report of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the country, which will help the government chalk out policies for the sector, is likely to be released by the end of this month, an official said.
"The final report of the census is expected by the month-end," MSME Secretary Dinesh Rai told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of a business-to-business web portal for the sector.
The report would also provide information on production, raw material, employment, exports, assets, plant and machinery, products and services, net worth, loan taken by enterprises and outstanding debt, besides aiding in assessment of the sick units under each category.
He also said a package for increasing the information technology penetration among the MSME is being prepared at an estimated cost of Rs 180 crore.
Earlier, MSME Minister (Independent charge) Dinsha J Patel launched the portal developed by National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC).
The portal would be of great help to the enterprises in the MSME sector as it would help them to reach out to a large number of clients worldwide, Patel said.
The sector employs about 4.20 crore people and contributes around 40 per cent to the country's exports.
