Obama calls world leaders on successful Osama operation

US President Barack Obama has made telephone calls to a number of world leaders and shared the information about the killing of the al Qaeda chief, Osama bin Laden, in Pakistan.

Obama spoke with numerous world leaders yesterday who expressed their congratulations on the successful American action to kill Osama bin Laden, which will make both the US and the world more secure, the White House said.

Obama spoke with President Felipe Calderon of Mexico, the British Prime Minister David Cameron, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Chilean President, Miguel Juan Sebastián Piñera Echenique; President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, and the French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

 

"The leaders discussed the ongoing terrorist threat that will require steadfast efforts in the future, and committed to working closely together to defeat al Qaeda," the White House said.

All of them, congratulated Obama, and conveyed admiration for the courage and capability of the Americans who conducted the operation.
