Oil companies to link 20 mn LPG connections with DBTL in UP

Public sector oil marketing companies (OMC) have started the mammoth task of linking over 20 million domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) connections in Uttar Pradesh with the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme.
The scheme is meant to providing subsidy amount to LPG consumers directly in their registered bank accounts.
This is aimed at weeding out bogus connections and plugging leakages.
The Centre is looking at saving Rs 10,000 crore in subsidies by curbing diversions and leakages.
UP has the largest number of domestic LPG connections and also the consumption.
