More than 500 companies are expected to participate in the inaugural Indian-Asean Trade and Business Fair to be held at New Delhi in January 2011, Road, Transport and Highways Minister Kamal Nath said here today.

The mega-fair, which will enjoy the participation of business heads from South-East Asian markets, is being organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry at New Delhi's Pragati Maidan between January 8 and 11, he added.

Speaking at the India-Singapore Trade and Investment Forum held today, Nath said that India faces the challenges of managing its strong economic growth.

“We have to see the even spread of economic growth throughout the country,” he said.

For this, the government is placing extra emphasis on infrastructure development with a particular focus on road connectivity, Nath added.

The minister had set a target of laying 20 km of roads per day to accelerate infrastructure development in the country.

The private sector, especially foreign investors, has responded enthusiastically to the $80 billion programme in the last six months, Nath said.

The minister aims to attract 60 per cent investment in projects being implemented under privatised and concession schemes.
