Rural women get access to Facebook office

In an effort to bring technology closer to the self-employed women at the bottom of the pyramid, Facebook India and the Telangana government launched a training programme aiming to equip rural self-help groups(SHGs) with necessary knowledge to promote their products online.

On Friday the first batch of 10 SHG representatives were given training at the Facebook Hyderabad office. The women representatives were trained in basics of Facebook platform and its features. They were given an overview of how to use Facebook to promote their products online.

 

The SHG representatives were given a step-by-step walk through of Facebook Page creation and also some tips on posting engaging content.

"This programme is part of our continued investment in businesses, developers and the 132 million people who use Facebook in India. these events, which we are rolling out nationwide, will help entrepreneurs in rural India reach new customers and ultimately grow," Ritesh Mehta, head of economic growth initiatives for Facebook India said.

Using the Facebook platform these rural women now are able to market their products globally, says Telangana IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan.
