Samajwadi Party's support to the Congress-led government at the Centre was aimed at keeping the communal forces at bay, SP's Madhya Pradesh unit President Deep Narayan Yadav today said.

The party had not fielded its nominees in all Lok Sabha constituencies in the state to make sure that the BJP did not win, Yadav told reporters here.

He said that despite this, the Congress had not backed the SP nominee in the Vidisha constituency from where senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj was elected by a huge margin.

He, however, criticised the Congress saying that the policies and programmes of the Congress had not given any benefit to the nation, and the poor had been badly affected.

Yadav said that the vote percentage of SP had gone up in the recent parliamentary polls but admitted that the party was unable to open an account in the state.
