Uttar Pradesh’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on Wednesday presented a roadmap for the development of the sector.
In consolidated terms, UP has over 3.1 million MSMEs, including 7,60,000 and 2.34 million units in the manufacturing and services sector.
The sector provides employment to over five million people in UP with the state accounting for about 12 per cent of the Indian MSME base. It accounts for eight per cent of the state gross domestic product (SGDP) of about Rs 6,00,000 crore (current prices).
MSME chamber Indian Industries Association (IIA) on Wednesday handed over the set of suggestions to state minister for small scale industries (SSI) and export promotion (independent charge) Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar here.
The chamber also held a felicitation function for him. Another similar ceremony was held for Prof Abhishek Mishra, UP protocol minister (attached to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav), later in the evening.

Elaborating thrust points, IIA president Jugal Kishore said implementation of purchase and price preference policy for MSME, which was scrapped by the previous government, was vital for the uplift of the sector.
The chamber suggested that the government organised a large MSME convention in Lucknow every year to be chaired by the state chief minister and presided by the SSI minister. “The manufacturing sector is shrinking fast, which may pose a serious problem for employment generation in the state,” Kishore added.
Other key proposals included a separate industrial MSME policy in UP; resolution to the problem of non-availability of land for setting up MSME units; enhancing the effectiveness of Udyog Bandhu’ separate house tax rates for industrial properties; 24 hrs availability of electricity to industry; proper implementation of single table system; implementation of effective rehabilitation policy for sick MSMEs and formation of rehabilitation board; simplification of labour law procedures; simplified and uniform VAT; assistance for enhancement of technology and incentives for setting up MSMEs in backward areas.
