Congress President Sonia Gandhi will address her first election rally in newly formed Telangana on Wednesday. The event will be held at Karimnagar.
The party is trying hard to take maximum political mileage out of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Karimnagar, which used to be a Congress stronghold, was the epicentre of the statehood movement. After the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) spearheaded the movement, the constituency was represented by TRS President K Chandrasekhara Rao.
Rao had won in 2004, 2006 and 2008 in the five-year period by going in for bypoll over the statehood issue.
