'SBH-SBI merger inevitable'

The amalgamation of State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) with its parent bank, the State Bank of India (SBI), looks more feasible now, said SBH Managing Director Amitabha Guha.

"The State Bank of Saurashtra's merger with SBI is almost through with the market conditions and the government in favour of the merger of associate banks. In this favourable environment, the institution (SBH)'s amalgamation with the parent bank seems inevitable," he said after announcing the bank's third quarter results today.

SBI's board of directors were scheduled to meet in Mumbai on January 24, he said, hinting that there was a higher probability of SBH's merger proposal and a decision in favour of it coming up during the meet."
